Contact Us

A certificate of fitness (CoF) is a regular check to ensure that your vehicle meets required safety standards. Vehicles requiring this certification are:

  • heavy vehicles – trucks, larger trailers, motor homes
  • all passenger service vehicles – taxis, shuttles and buses
  • rental vehicles.

There are two types of CoF depending on the weight of the vehicle - Cof A  and CoF B 

 CoF A vehicles

Light passenger service vehicles with a gross vehicle mass (GVM) under 3500kgs - Taxis, Ubers, shuttles and rental vehicles

CoF B vehicles

Heavy vehicles with a gross vehicle mass (GVM) over 3500kgs - trucks, buses and motor homes.

CoF A Towbar Requirements

Vehicles under a CoF A require the following labelling to be applied to the towbar:

  • Make and Model
  • Vehicle towing weights
  • Build number of towbar
  • Towbar code
The good news is, all our towbars are labelled as above so these can be fitted to any vehicle under a CoF A for no additional cost.

CoF B Towbar Requirements

All CoF B towbars are quoted, manufactured and fitted at our sister company on the North Shore, Auckland.  The vehicle must be seen before quoting due to the many different chassis variations and vehicle set ups.  Please contact us for more details.

Vehicles under a CoF B require an LT400.  

An LT400 is a certificate issued upon completion of the towbar fitting to certify that the work undertaken has been complted to the required standard.  

These are issued onsite by an independant NZTA engineer.

We can design and build a CoF certified towbar to suit your vehicle.  As these towbars are built and certified onsite fitting is done at our workshop based on the North Shore, Auckland.
